2010

Was browsing some blogs and seems that some bloggers have consolidated their 2010, so I thought I should do the same.

2010 for me...
1. joined my current company P**s*s***s as Regional HR Executive.
It is a struggle but I would say still surviving. It is a learning process, especially in terms of how to manage difficult people and work with weird people. Realised that working in my previous hotel really limits my view. Coming over here might not be the best choice I have ever made, but I am definitely grateful to have this exposure.

2. Went to BKK alone. Something which I never thought I would do as I thought that BKK is a relatively more dangerous place. In the end, BKK is definitely safe and it helps that I am naturally dark as well. Though it is not my best trip, at least I have fulfilled my honour in going back to pray to the 4 faced Buddha.

3. Went for KL trip with a bestie. It was a good trip and without doubt I have enjoyed it. At least we have 1 trip saved in our memories.

4. Discovered 流沙包 -- the one which will really 流. :) It is my love now.

5. Finally learnt how to appreciate having a sister who entertains me. When I was young (and 不懂事), I kept thinking why should I have a sister. But now I am appreciative of her being there to entertain (and irritate) me.

6. I am definitely always appreciative of my mother who has single-handedly brought up myself and my sister (and Hersheys). It is definitely VERY difficult and she has done it. Not everyone is able to do it.

7. Introduced my 2 best friends to each other to form 3 best friends. :)

8. Still keeping good contacts with the Ninis/ SIM schoolmates. Davis gotten married this year and Daniel and I were the emcees for his wedding banquet. First time as emcee, definitely nervous, but happy to be part of the great wedding event for Davis and Qiuying.

9. Second time being jiemei. This time for Doris' and Eric's wedding. Great fun.

10. Left the hotel with achievements of my own -- doing the Retirees Lunch by adding a theme to the event, coordinating successfully with the Anniversary Awards, giving standup presentations to Security department and F&B managers. It is usually not possible for a HRE to do all these but I have strived for my own good. I am proud of myself.

11. Applied my first credit card under my own name. :)

Seriously cant remember more. I am so preoccupied with work/ my own career planning that I cant think of anything else for 2010. I especially have not much recollections of the first half of the year. Initially I could only think about my job change for 2010. Hope there will not be another change in 2011 -- I simply cant afford to keep changing. It is very bad for my resume.

2011 will be another exciting year. Again, I will work towards developing myself during my stay with my current company. I will meet up with lots of challenges, but I am sure I will get over them. When I leave the company, hopefully in April 2012, I will have developed good communication skills and a deeper trench hole for work stress. I will be better in managing difficult people and I would have achievements in some projects. I will be proud to call myself having regional experience. It is not going to be easy, especially since I work under JB, but I will keep trying. I need not love her, but I will need to know how to work under her.

加油 for 2011! :D

Review

Went East Coast Park with Shan, Jia and David, with Hersheys, Diamond and Jerfrin (not sure about spelling). It was quite a good trip though the humans ended up more tired than the dogs. We should have dog outings more often. Hersheys is showing signs of fever though. I hope she will feel better soon.

======================

Discussed office matters with HT, about my feeling upset about new colleague (NC) getting more chance of exposure than myself. Generally feeling jealous of new colleague and imbalanced of the whole preferential treatment from Management. But I will live with it, coz this is the company culture. It is not what do you do, but who you know; as well as where you come from. NC was previously from hotel background, which explains the preferential treatment.

HT pointed out that I might be too anxious to see results, which I agree. On second thought, I think this is something which I need to adjust my thinking and to start to give time for things to happen, regardless they happen or not. I am glad that I have someone truthful and experienced (meaning having worked for 5 years and above) like HT and Jiexi to guide me along. Very often, they highlighted areas which I have not thought of. :) From this we can really see that experience does matter.

My overall conclusion with regards to Management's preferential treatment to NC is that I will just do whatever I have to do. I will also accept it that NC is preferred even though she is only here for 5 days. From what I have gathered myself, she is definitely a capable individual who had exposure to full spectrum of HR, which I don't have. Hence, I will accept it if Management prefers her and if she ever gets on top of me (as in being promoted instead of me), I will accept it, even though I will not be happy. Simply because I know she is preferred and that she also has what it takes (I feel).

Personally I will just continue to strive and improve in whatever ways I can. That's the best I can do for now. I am still green and has lots to learn. Perhaps my next job will be in the hotel industry as well.

Its been a loooooooong time

It has been a loooooooooooooooooooooooong time since I last blogged. I am back! Hahaa. Probably coz I have more time now. I have left my company, so I am officially unemployed. Speaking of my company, I was totally disappointed at how the company treat me.

I actually saw an ad for my position posted on jobsdb, and I wasn't informed about it. I felt betrayed and made used of as I had stayed with the company out of sheer goodwill when there was ZERO executive left in the department. Out of sheer goodwill, I stayed for like 3-4 months more. I am not expecting my company to offer me a permanent position, but at least inform me about the ad. Apparently it does not pay to be kind in the corporate world. Anyway, all these are over.

Hopefully I will be able to find a company which does appreciate goodwill and responsible staff. Wish me luck!

For the time being, I am planning to take a mini break first and start my job hunting slow. Firstly I would like to focus more on my personal well-being. My last job had left me tired and stressed with a severally outbreaking face. And when I say severally, I literally mean severally. I am even popping pimples on my neck. I hope my zits will slowly subside. Haiz.

For a start, I am keen to learn yoga. I would like to restart having Japanese lessons as well. But I have limited re$ource$. Maybe I should go teach tuition at tuition centres. I also plan to tidy up my room, which is in a very very VERY messy state right now. Currently on my computer desk, I have facial products, comics, disposable panties, hair products, massager, Breath Right, bracelets, nail clipper, files.. and the list goes on. A picture paints a thousand words. I will give 2!

I want to iron all my clothes and organise my cupboards too. I want to sleep till the cows come home.... Aaa.. Wait, I am already doing that!Photobucket

=====================================

Went KTV with Shan and Jia on Tuesday (if I remembered correctly, all those sleeping made me lost track of time). Sang though I was really nasal coz of my flu and cough, which lasted for like 1 week and counting. Photobucket I think my voice sounded weird and weak. Photobucket We MUST go sing again!!!

No photos as they are with Sijia and Huishan. David (Sijia's bf) recorded a few vids as well. See if Jia manages to send them to me.

No strength + image problem

I am tired. I think I am sick for a bit too long. Even though I am showing signs of recovery, I am still not exactly well. My strength is not back yet. The other day I was trying to scrub some dirt off a towel, I was so weak that I had to keep alternating my arms to do the scrubbing. (Normally 1 arm should be able to do the job, and I should take shorter time.)

Embarrassingly, I doh-ed on Davis' floor last night because I was too tired after OT-ing. XYZ. Really very sianz loh. I DON'T LIKE TO BE SICK! :ROAR: Normally I am the one who doh-ed last too! :(

============================

My colleagues kept emphasising one thing to me -- that I should not be soft or show signs that I am new or noob or weak or easy-to-handle to my store staff. This is because there is a high chance that they will try to take advantage and it will be very tough for me to overturn that image once the impression sets in. This is definitely something I should
MUST work on.

I am getting a job -- Updated!

On 1 September, I will be starting my 6 months contract as a HR Executive (doing recruitment). This is by the way, another company, different from that of my previous post.

The sequence of the whole incident:
13 Aug 2008 - I started working temp at Company W.
28 Aug 2008 - I went to interview for HR position at Company M; Company M offered me 6mths contract position, convertible to perm. I accepted verbally.
29 Aug 2008 (morning) - I was offered HR Executive position at Company W. My HR manager was so happy that she gave me a hug. (Yes is SHE, if is HE, I would have slapped him)

After lots of mental struggle and weighing of pros and cons, I plucked up lots of courage to reject Company M to join Company W. If it was other companies, I would not have even considered. However, it is Company W this time round. So far, the people are nice and I am comfortable with the environment and people. Hence, I decided to join Company W. :)

Hope everything will be all well there.

I am touched by my SIM dearies' good wishes when I told them I was going to work as an insurance agent (Company M is an insurance company). *MUACKZ* Love you all LOTS! :D

Where is my "best friend"?

It was a looooooooooooooooooooooong time ago since I last saw my "best friend". Her name is 小紅. Since I am missing her terribly, I decided to seek advice from my GP, Dr Chua.
Dr Chua is seriously a very good doctor, very experienced and he is very elaborate in his explanation. We trust him a lot. In fact, many a times, he was the one who found out and suggested that we need more specialised attention. For example, my mother's cyst near her liver, which was taken out 2 years ago.
This time is not an exception too. When he got to know that my 小紅 hasn't been visiting for such a long period of time, he made me go for an ultrasound scan. Though I am definitely not pregnant, this marks my first ultrasound scan. He suspected that there are cysts inside my womb or that the lining of my womb is thick, which might results in cancer in the future.

Result of the scan - My womb's lining is of okay thickness, but I have a cyst at my left womb/ ovary, measuring 4cm by 4.2cm by 5cm. Good news is that cysts are normally benign, so not a problem. Though it is not exactly a big cyst, it is not small enough to be completely ignored. If a cyst is smaller than 3cm, it is considered to be "safe". For my case, since it is bigger than 3cm, I can choose to go for an ultrasound scan regularly to check on the cyst (at around once or twice a year), or I can do something to remove it.

Possible (not going to happen for sure) complications include further growth of the cyst and that the cyst might cause pain if my healthy tissues get attached/ stucked onto it. Dr Chua further explained that this is possible when the cyst (round in shape with a stalk-like tip) moves and results in my tissues being entwined together with the "stalk".

So, conclusion is that I am going to see a gynae, Dr Fong, this coming Tuesday. He was the one who delivered me and my sister. So, he is also very experienced. He had appeared in some shows too. As I am not working now, I am actually pretty concerned with the gynae bill and initially wanted to go KK hospital or something. Dr Fong is practising at Glenneagles, meaning he is rather expensive too. Dr Chua then joked that I should tell Dr Fong that I was delivered by him, so he should give me discount. Hahah~! Anyway, Dr Chua still referred me to Dr Fong since he is a very experienced gynae and that he is my mother's gynae.

With regards to 小紅, Dr Chua has given me some hormone pills. However this is only a one time kind of treatment. For long term treatment, I will have to consult Dr Fong, who I can say now, is our family gynae. Dr Chua mentioned that I should lose weight to curb 小紅 problem, which is what YZ told me once. Okayyy, I am officially starting my weight loss plan.

To be honest, for unknown reasons, I am actually very shy to admit that I am on a weight lossing plan. I always think that it is very embarrassing to admit that you are trying to lose weight. But then again, in our society, who isn't trying to lose weight? Even those stick-thin ladies are trying to lose weight. Nevermind, I shall try to face my embarrassment problem. Apparently first step by admitting on my blog. But please don't come asking me about it ok, especially when you are a guy. Girls I don't mind so much.

Hopefully, my complexion will improve as my relationship with 小紅 improves.

Everyday we learnt something new. Today I learnt why banana is considered to be an erotic fruit. Guidance from Huishan and Yiying. Huishan tried to convince me that banana is erotic by explaining step by step, using Pan Weibo's appearance at 娛樂百分百 as an example. Yiying simply told me explicitly. Knowledge gained. Hahha~

Before today, I always thought of banana as just a yellow fruit 黃色 in relation to it being a 色色的水果. After today I shall see it in another light. Perhaps I will be reminded of today's "lesson" when I eat banana. Maybe I will burst out in laughter then. LOL.

I love Monopoly!

Jia, Xiuling and I went to airport to give moral support to Shan and Yee. Since we have nothing better to do, we played Graffiti and Monopoly while the Audit-ers studied. (If I can I shall get back the Graffiti paper from Jia to post online)

Graffiti
Each one of us have to come up with a list of words, and the 2nd person will have to draw it, and of course the last person will have to guess the words with time limit. Although we only have 3 players, we still managed to have fun! Some of the pictures were super funny too. HAHAA~~

Monopoly
For the first time in ages, I PLAYED MONOPOLY!!!!!
Come to think about it, this wasn't the first time I played Monopoly, but it is definitely the first time I played with proper rules and regulations. Maybe because when I was young and played with other young children, we misunderstood the rules. We thought that we will have to pay rental once we passed by a house.

I had fun buying land and building houses. I liked to stop for Free Parking to collect the previously paid fines too. HAHAHAH~~

At the end of the day, Jia won $5900+ and I won $4929 or something around that figure. XL very poor thing, think she only got a few hundreds. But she taught me a lot about Monopoly! She said she will introduce more board games to me. I think I am very suaku, because I have never played Cludo and some other common games before. NEVER MIND! I will catch up sooner or later!!

XL: Erm.. I owe you $XX ok?
Me: Don't need. I give you $100.
XL: Har? Don't need lah, I need to pay rental. Why you give me $100?
Me: Because you poor.
XL: + + +
Jia: Hahaha~ She don't know to be touched or to be sad loh.
Me: Oops, I too direct already ar?
Jia: Ya!

Really ooops loh.

Anyway, I like love this game!!! I WANNA PLAY MONOPOLY AGAIN!!!!

PS Jia: Please help dig out your Monopoly!!!!!!!!! PRETTY PLEASE!!!!!!!

PS Shan and Yee: JIAYOU FOR YOUR LAST LAP!!!!!

Yippee~

My exams ended yesterday!!!!! MSM paper was ok. But I couldn't finish one of the questions. Wasted a lot of time doing my Section B questions (started on Section B first), even did part a of one and ended up canceling it off coz I totally don't know how to do part b. I should have read through the whole question before attempting first..

A lot of my friends are expecting me to jump after my paper. Instead, I was still very calm. I wasn't excited, but was definitely relieved. I was so tired yesterday that I KO-ed at around 12am till 11+am this morning. Slept at 4am at Sijia's place the night before.

Thank you very much Sijia for adopting me for the night before exams. Thank you Xiuling for waking me up the last morning when I couldn't wake up. Totally LOVE you all loh!!

========================================

Went dinner with Doris today at Tonkichi. Very nice with free flow of shredded cabbage to go with their sauce. Yummy!

I told Doris that I was hungry because I only ate 1 muffin, 1 peach tart and 1 swiss roll the whole day. She told me my exams ended already, should eat decent food instead of examination rationing food. Haha~

Going Sentosa next Saturday with Twins!!! Wheeee~~~

Buang Exam and Complexion

Today I had my HRM paper. It sux. And I am serious. I am not exaggerating. If I failed, I am not surprised.

After the paper I felt totally dejected. What made my mood worse was my meeting of one of my polytechnic classmates. (I shall be explicitly implicit here)

We were classmates since polytechnic year one. We were frequent project mates; yet some how, I do not have deep impressions that we were project mates. During SIM year two (exempted for 1 year), we studied together; but this year, she is not my mug mate. Today I finally know why.

She treats me as a competitor, never mind.
She talks bad behind me, I let it go since I am not present.
I suspect she attempted to influence the people around her to dislike me. So be it, I am a believer of 清者自清. I did not do the same to her because I have integrity.
Her 口头禅 was,"Joycelyn 欺负我." and frequently victimise herself. I endure but attempted to correct her by confronting her.
She commented about my bad complexion EVERY TIME she sees me. (This happened for at least 3-5 times) I am hurt and angry but I tolerate still, until today.

Yes, I agree. I have adult acne. My complexion is CUI. But you don't have to remind me EVERY TIME you see me.

PLUS,
Unless you know how to make up, you can't comment someone's make up skills are bad.
Unless you know fashion, you can't say someone is a fashion disaster.
Unless you are a beauty queen, you can't say someone is ugly.
Unless you own flawless complexion, you can't say someone's complexion is cui.

After the paper today, I met poly classmate (PC) at the MRT station.
PC: Wah! Joycelyn you very stressed ar?
Me: *irritated* Number 1 - My complexion cui is none of your business. Number 2 - you don't have to remind me every time you see me.
PC: Why you so agitated?
Me: Your commenting about my bad complexion every time you see me makes it hard for me not to be work up.
PC: Orh. OK loh.

Actually I wanted to say something more evil. But I held my tongue because I have 口德. As the saying goes, with friends like her, I don't need enemies.

I seriously don't understand. She can be a nice person but I don't understand why is she "playing stunts". I don't understand why must she degrade others so as to escalate herself. Neither do I understand why must she victimise herself all the time.

PS: As I have mentioned. I am being explicitly implicit here. So I am sure many of you would be able to guess who PC is. And, if PC is reading this, I am not hiding anything. Yes, I am pissed off with you; and I have a reason to. If you have a problem, really appreciate if you will confront me, straight at my face.

I felt
After this episode, I was so upset about both my buang paper and my buang complexion that I cried. Shan, Dan and Jia comforted me. Yee even called me to check on me. Jiexi was angry via MSN with me. All said they empathised with me and felt angry with PC.

ICP over!!! :D

I HAVE COMPLETED MY ICP PAPER TODAY~!!!!!

I am feeling damn high since I finished the paper, as I have really put in quite a bit of effort for ICP. I have at least spent the last 10 days studying ICP and almost nothing else. (There was one day which I spent on MSM)

Since it was my first paper, I was SERIOUSLY feeling the jitters this morning. Basically I felt like a coconut - all empty except water. I was taking deep breaths and almost feel like giving up and not turn up for the paper. I was so scared that I thought I was going to hyperventilate soon. (Huishan and Sijia can vouch for me -- HS and I spent the night at Jia's) I was so nervous that I called Li'an (is 丽安 not ) to chat for a while.

HS: It is normal to feel nervous for first paper. Yesterday I could feel my legs turning jelly. (LOL if under normal no-exams condition)
Me: HUH?! I scared later my hands turn jelly leh! Legs turn jelly ok, coz you can sit. My hands jelly then goner liao!
HS: Wun lah!

HS, SJ, Twins: You already have the knowledge inside you. Later you will be able to remember all already!
Twins: 必胜! Prayed for you already! (I asked Twins to pray for me)
Daniel: I'll ask him (Master Kong) to bless you first. :) (Dan and Jia going to visit Master Kong today)
XL, Karen and everybody: Good luck!
Yee was real sweet to sms me, asking how was my paper.

Mummy: (called me yesterday) That day you said you wanna go pray to Confucius, did you go?
Me: No, going this weekend.
Mummy: Then previously you got go Bugis there pray?
Me: Got.
Mummy: Ok. (LOL)

She had a bad fell last night and went to the hospital to do a CT scan, but she didn’t want me to know, fearing that it might affect my examination performance. Poor thing. But thank god she is ok now.

REALLY SWEET DAO~~~

Anyway, the verdict is:

I CAN DO MY PAPER! YEAH!!!!!!!!! We are supposed to do 4 questions out of 10. Surprisingly, after reading the questions, I realised I could attempt 6 questions! Meaning I can choose!!!!!! I was really high and was furiously writing. Maybe it is because I leave a line and because I spent 4 full pages doing my framework, I used a total of 3 booklets (1 thick and 2 thin). Boy! I am damn proud of myself!!! All my hard work seems to have paid off (can only confirm when I get my results). I even had an urge to email Geb Geb to let him know I can attempt 6 questions. Ha~

Time for bed! *going off to bed happily*

Wuhu~!

I have decided to start a new blog! I was thinking previously if I should. But think about it again, what's the worst that could happen? At the most this is a dead blog OR I will just close this blog! No big deal!

Went to mug with Twins today. I wasn't really productive, was simply R E S T L E S S. So tomorrow I've got to pull up my socks (if I am wearing socks)

Speaking about mug, I simply to mug with my Ninis and Twins. Coz we motivate one another and keep one another company. *sweet*

Since this is my first entry, I shall beautify it with pictures, taken in library when studying with Twins.

At times, after studying for too long, we ok lah, is me I get vain.
(even though there are no tall eye-candy in sight)
Me: *after bunning up my hair* Hey, my hair messy a not har?
Doris: No lah. Still ok.
Me: Help me take pic of my hair leh.
Doris: Ok.
*takes hp and starts to snap at Doreen while my back was facing her*

Note: Doreen's finger wasn't in her mouth
Me: *after noticing reflection on glass* WEI~!
Doris: Okok.
*takes hp and start to snap at Doreen again while my back was facing her again*

Me: WEI~!
Doris: How you know I never take picture?!
Doreen: Coz she can see the reflection lah!
Doris: Orh........ Hahaha~~ Okok.
*finally took a pic of my bun*

Verdict -- My bun wasn't too messy

At times, after studying for too long, we get bored, so we take pictures.

We studying ok!

sometimes study until wanna puke.

but we are still happy to be studying together!

=)

At times, after studying for too long, we get crazy.

Monkey

Gold Digging. (Tat's my finger; but not in her nose)

hee hee..

Note: lesser pics of Doris coz that day I wasn't sitting with her.

At times, after studying for too long, we get hungry, so we went to get food.
As a result.......

we got "summon" Coz not allowed to reserve seats, can only be away for max 15min.

Though you may think that we are at the library to make merry, trust me, for the rest of the time, we are really serious in mugging. And we were quiet too. We interact via notes.

We encourage one another too.

pic of my drawing. Me (drawn on rough paper, with the 金三顺 sauna hat), Doris, Doreen
Their pics were drawn on their notes. Hahaa..

When I was really restless today, Doris drew this:

coz I've got curly hair! HAHA~

and wrote this:

Can't read? Nevermind, I type out.
Me: Sianz! I don't even have mood to read magazine! O_0
Doreen: 10 days left
Me: Boh la sa leh. HOW?! Quick stress me!!
Doris: Fail hor, classification drops!! Fail hor, must repeat a year!! First paper, v impt.. Coz if is smoothly, can do, the next few papers, you got more confidence!!
Me: It is working! Good! =)
Doris: First paper will boost your confidence level, therefore, jia you!
*sweet*

PS Ninis: we can try to take more pic! Then I can blog about our mugging session too!!! I love you!! Jiayou!! MUG MUG MUG~~
